MOUNT EVEREST EXPEDITION - 1924

MOUNT EVEREST EXPEDITION - SIKKIM - TIBET - NEPAL - 1924

The MOUNT EVEREST EXPEDITION made its attempt in 1924. A special Stamp with No Value Expressed was used on letters in addition to the normal Indian Postage stamps. The purpose of this Label was to raise funds for the Expedition and it really had no postal value. They are usually found on postcards advertising The Mount Everest Film. The postcards bearing a photo of Mount Everest and a Message from the Expedition, were posted from the Main Base camp, Viz., At the RONGBUK GLACIER, from where a special Runner carried the mail to India. The special label is cancelled with Special Cachet. Reading " MT.Everest Expedition, 1924, " IN the Outer Circle and " RONGBUK-GLACIER-BASE CAMP" in the center. A second cachet has the same inscription but with the word "17,000 FT." added in the center.
